10 Weeks Out!

sept5 10 Weeks Out!

9/5/2012 10 weeks out from my upcoming shoots

I'm now 10 weeks out from my upcoming shoots and I'm in my second week of Cycle 2 of TMT-PHASE TWO.  I woke up this morning weighing 217.4!  That being said I noticed a slight bit of softness starting to occur around my midsection.  Looking a little watery in this weeks pictures and my waist measurements were a tad higher so NO CHEAT MEALS THIS WEEK icon sad 10 Weeks Out!   Even though I havn't started my cutting process yet like I said in a previous post I want to make this process as easy as possible so skipping my cheat meals this week is what I'm doing to harden that area back up.  Overall I really like the way I look right now.  My strength, endurance and pumps have been insane!  Yesterday was leg day and it is by far one of the hardest leg workouts I've ever done.  I got it on film and it was my last day of filming for Phase 2 videos.  There will be 10 new videos coming out weekly once the book is released next week!  Also wanted to say that Cycle 2's chest workout is one of my all time favorite chest workouts I've ever designed.  You guys have some good shit to look forward to lol.  Today was supposed to be my off day but I ended up taking a Barry's Bootcamp Class.  If you don't know anything about it it's pretty much high intensity interval training.  First time I ran in a long ass time and the class kicked my ass! It was a great class and the option might be there for me to teach a couple classes a week.  I see now why there is a lot of hype around that gym.

So after A LOT of thinking I've decided to stay in Nashville.  For several reasons but the one major reason is that I don't want to give up my business that I've built up for the past two years and have to restart in VA.  As a personal trainer it takes time to build up a good clientele and it would be a pretty ignorant move on my part to just throw everything away here.  I went and checked out my new place tonight that I'll be moving into very soon and I'm extremely excited about this new chapter of my life.  It will be very interesting!

Hey Tyler ! sorry for your girlfriend but a new chapter is a big deal in life and i'm sure you'll manage it for the best as usual ! I'm sure at last Cal will be happy to welcome you for the best of your life ! just a little question : Would you tell what are your last complete body stats after the change i can admire on your pics ?? Thanks man and whatever you stay a light in the night for me !
30 August 2012

Tyler - I'm not sure what my full body stats are because I don't measure my whole body for assessments.  The measurements I take are. Neck - 16, Waist - 32, Upper Leg - 25, Upper arm fully relaxed not flexed 15.5, hips 40.5.  All of my measurements are taken first thing in the morning with no pump and not flexing.

Hey Tyler! Glad to see you had an awesome trip to Philly before you start the grind to your shoot. Say, I was wondering what you did for food on your trip? I know your gonna map out what you eat in your members section, but I'm wondering more how you packed for it? Like did you just cook up a bunch of food and then check a bag full of it? Just wondering cause traveling has always been a dilemma for me because I want to maintain my nutrition plan. Thanks Tyler! All the Best!
29 August 2012

Tyler - I prepped all of my food the night before.  I weighed everything out and bagged them up individually as meals.  Packed it in a cooler and used the cooler as my carry on.  Trust me it's a pain in the ass but if your serious about sticking to a plan in order to maximize your true potential physique wise you will do what it takes.

Sunny
Hey Tyler, two questions: 1. Is there a difference between different BCAA's, or do they all have the same thing? Are some companies more concentrated then others or have more grams per scoop? Im trying to find a good one. 2. What, in your opinion, is the pre-workout carb food to eat? Ive been having oatmeal but ive been told that does do much for energy in the gym? Thanks in advance!
28 August 2012

Tyler - There definitely is a difference in BCAA's as far as quality goes.  I suggest getting a instatized BCAA.  I use Optimum Nutrition's plane instatized powder.  The cheaper stuff is clumpy and doesn't mix well.  As for the best pre workout carb source I would say experiment a bit.  I've done a lot of different sources from sweet potato, white potato, white rice, brown rice, oatmeal, and apple sauce.  Experiment a bit and see what gives you the best pump and energy in the gym.

hey tyler u told me that Micronized Creapure Creatine Monohydrate is good but what is a good brand that makes it and also what is a good supplement for getting super vascular results like veins popping out hanks
28 August 2012

Tyler - Optimum Nutrition is the name brand.  Vascularity is a result of low body fat.  Genetics also play a roll in how vascular you are going to be once the fat is stripped away.  There isn't any supplement that causes vascularity but there are some that can help with increased blood flow but if you still have fat covering your muscles you will never see the veins.

Jesse
Tyler, You drink milk? and if so what kind? And if not, why don't u? Thanks man.
28 August 2012

Tyler - I don't drink milk.  Only things I drink are water (2 gallons a day) black coffee (2 cups a day) and my pre and intra workout shakes.  Reason I don't drink milk is I don't like it...I like chocolate milk but that has too much sugar lol.  I'm sure there are some benefits to having a glass of milk but I don't want the added calories and sugars and fats from milk.

John
Will your new members section include a diet plan for cutting weight? If not could you recommend one?
28 August 2012

Tyler - Yeah my members section will include all of the diets that I have followed. Cutting,Maintence,Bulking, and you will get to follow along to exactly what I'm doing all the way up to the day of my shoots!  There will be a forum section where members will be able to ask questions about macros etc to fit them by emulating my nutrition.

Philly Trip Recap

What an awesome experience!  A short vacation to visit my good friend Anthony was just what I needed.  On Friday my day got started at 3:50am Nashville time since I had to be at the airport by 5am.  It wasn't a direct flight so my layover was in Chicago.  The first flight was hideous since it was one of those tiny regional planes and the guy sitting beside me was my height as well.  Needless to say it was a cramped 1hr flight.  I was able to get a 20 minute or so nap on the next flight to Philly and I arrived at 12pm.  Once I got in we relaxed for a couple hours then went to the Sports Club and trained some DELTS!  Ridiculous workout! I brought up some NOXplode 2.0 since I had some free samples and it was a lot easier then bringing up all my supplements.  This was the first time I had taken this stuff in years and it had me tweaking in the gym lol.  I'm not a fan of that feeling and what I mean by tweaking is that it had me so hyped up I didn't want to stop moving and mentally just not a good feeling to have in the gym IMO.  After that went back to the apt and knocked down a couple more meals before we headed out for drinks.  We went to a few different places that night.   The Continental, Morgans Pier, and Ladder 15.  It was a great night and even though I only was running on a couple of hours I was a trooper and made it all night.  One of his friends that he works with Ryan also joined up with us and I havn't had this much fun IN A WHILE!  The city life is something that I do miss because Philly reminded me a lot of NYC.  Just a scaled down smaller version.  The next day we got up and I still had a buzz from the night before for the majority of the day lol.  We did a few things around the city and then it was that time again to get a workout in.  We got after some ARMS and it was a crazy workout.  Sick pump and it was the first time I'd ever gotten nauseous from an arm workout.  Now I don't know if it was because of the partying or the intensity of the workout...most likely a combination of both.  By the time we finished up our workout and got cleaned up we headed to dinner and ate at a place called Devon.  Amazing seafood restaurant that's right beside of one of the main parks in the city so we sat outside to do some people watching.  I got a 10pc ahi tuna sushi roll and tomato basil salad for appetizer.  Crab cakes, mashed potatoes, and asparagus for my main coarse.  Desert was a mojito icon smile Philly Trip Recap   As you can see this was a very scaled down version of my normal cheats but I wanted to be able to go out and have more drinks and not be totally stuffed.  Later on we ended up back at Ladder 15 and had a blast!  Yesterday for lunch we got some Philly Cheese steaks!  I couldn't go to Philly without trying one!  It was delicious icon smile Philly Trip Recap Overall it was a great trip.  A much needed trip since now it's time to crack down for the next 11.5 weeks to get in the best shape of my life for my upcoming shoots.  So that means I pretty much will not be doing anything social until I'm done shooting.  It was great hanging out and catching up with Anthony and making a new friend Ryan.  We talked about all taking a trip to Vegas together at some point and they are going to come down and visit me here in Nashville as well.  I know that's gonna be one hell of a time!

aug16 Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.

8/16/2012

Time flies by!  As I'm getting older I'm noticing that the weeks go by A LOT faster then they did when I was in my late teens and early 20's.  Shit sucks lol!  Summer is almost over and next thing you know it'll be the holidays again.  One thing that is a huge plus about getting older (which I'll be turning 28 on November 24) is muscle maturity.  I'm really starting to notice my muscles getting a more mature look that comes with years spent hammering away at the weights.  Most males really start to hit their prime physique wise I'd say all through their 30's if they've played their cards right.  Today my day got started off with 30 minutes of low intensity treadmill walk.  I read some of the dumbest shit the other day from an interview of a guy who says that only guys who use steroids can benefit from doing fasted cardio.  I'm not quite sure what he means by this but it's his opinion.  Doing cardio as soon as you wake up is my favorite time to do it because it allows me to knock it out first thing and not have to worry about getting it in for the rest of the day.  I suggest to everyone whether your doing do it empty stomach or later on to keep your cardio separate from your weight training.  As soon as your done with weight training you want to focus on the repair process immediately to keep your body anabolic.  I understand some peoples schedules might not allow that but if yours does keep it separate. Later on I started putting TMT-PHASE 2 together as a book and before I knew it it was time to train some BACK!  I got a RIDICULOUS pump and I know that my  my clean cheat last night helped out with that along with my strength being through the roof!  Last night I had 5oz beef, 2 cups white rice, sun flower kernels, sushi, and a tomato salad.  Next week I'm going to switch it up but beef and white rice and sushi are definitely a favorite.

photo160 1024x1024 Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.

5oz beef, 2 cups white rice, sunflower kernels, sushi, tomato salad

TMT-Phase 2 will now be an 8 week program.  Reason being is since I've got this upcoming shoot once I'm done with phase 2 that will put me at 6 weeks out.  I've got one more week of Cycle 1 then I move onto cycle 2 which is weeks 5-8.  Phase 2 so far has allowed me to make some really solid gains.  I did my weekly assessment yesterday and I woke up at a weight of 215lb!  Body fat still reading under 5% so I'm extremely happy that I've been able to maintain my body fat but put quality size on. So Phase 3 will be a 6 week program geared towards getting into crazy photo shoot condition.  Once I'm 4-6 weeks out cheat meals will get cut out as well.  My goals is to be 3.5% body fat and DRY for this shoot.  You will be able to follow my diet as it changes and what I do to peak my condition the day of the shoot all on my members section!

Everyone keep up the hard work!

13 WEEKS OUT!

photo155 13 WEEKS OUT!

chasing that pump! 8/13/2012

If you have been reading my blog lately you will know I have been very indecisive with figuring out the right time to get back in front of the camera.  After doing some more thinking on Saturday and thought about it pretty much all day yesterday I made the decision to go ahead and book a shoot for the beginning of November!!  First off I want to say I CAN'T F**KING WAIT!! It's been close to 2 years since I've done a shoot and I know this will be my ALL TIME BESTI really want to make a statement with these pictures.  I'll be shooting with the famous fitness photographer Jason Ellis.  You can check his work out here.  Wednesday November 7th is the set date so that puts me at roughly 13 weeks out! Plenty of time to get super shredded! The shoot will take place in LA.  There are a couple of other shoots that are in the works for that same week and I won't know a definite on one till late October.  Onto some other news I spoke with my webmaster today and he still hasn't given me an exact date on the members section launch but I promise it will be soon.  You will get to follow my diet all the way up to my shoots and TMT-PHASE 2 will take me pretty close to my shoot date but PHASe 3 will the program for the final stages to grind it out right before the shoot.

shoutbox7 300x18036 Questions 8/12/2012Mark
Whatsup Tyler? I'm just about to start week 3 and sometimes my gym can crowded with machines occupied. I saw you said if you need to do supersets if you can't do giant sets. If able to would you prefer trisets over supersets and if I were to do supersets or trisets for week three what should my rest times be? Thanks
12 August 2012

Tyler - I would prefer you do tri-sets.  Rest time should be 90 seconds up to 120 seconds max between supersets, tri sets or giant sets.

Is it ok to take CITRULINE Mallate and L-Arginine at the same time in your prework out drink or is that too much? Or is it better to take them at different times thru out the day or not mix them at all?
11 August 2012

Tyler - Yep they work great together.  I would take them pre workout...be ready for some SICK PUMPS!

Shaun
Hey Tyler, I am currently on my 4th week of the TMT-Phase 1 and it's great that I am losing bf% and maintaining as much muscle mass as possible. However do you think I should throw in a fat burner in there?
10 August 2012

Tyler - That is going to be up to you.  The fat burner could potentially help speed up your fat loss as long as your nutrition is on point and your doing a fat loss nutrition plan.

Mark
Can you explain the difference between micronized creatine and monohydrate creatine? Do you have to cycle on and off on both of them? How long do you typically cycle for and which one is more effective? Thamls
9 August 2012

Tyler -

Micronized creatine is a new form of creatine monohydrate that has 20 times smaller particles than standard creatine.* I take it year round.  There are numerous advantages to supplementing with micronized creatine, including:

  • Fast absorption due to smaller creatine particles
  • Quickly mixing into shakes or liquids
  • Reduced chance of stomach discomfort
  • Better absorption rates and more bang for your buck

The old form of creatine monohydrate is known to cause water retention and bloating of your stomach.

TMT-PHASE 2 WEEK 2 DONE!

photo1511 TMT PHASE 2 WEEK 2 DONE!

PROGRESS - 8/8/2012 “Talent is cheap; dedication is expensive. It will cost you your life.”- Irving Stone

Another productive kick ass week of workouts.  This week was even better than week 1 since all the kinks were worked out and the tweaks I had to make worked out perfectly.  Phase 2 is set up differently then phase 1.  There are still 3 cycles and it's still periodization but it's just different. This week I ended up only doing 1 HIIT session that was 5 minutes of 1 min jump rope followed by 20 lying leg raises back in forth 5 times. Then finished off with 5 minutes of stair climber at levels 7.0 and worked up to 9.0.  This morning for my usual treadmill empty stomach work I switched it up a bit and incorporated some light jogging.  5 minutes I walked on an incline of 12.0 then 5 minutes jogged on an incline of 5.0. Speeds were for 3.8 for walking and 5.5 for jogging.  It made my 30 minutes fly by so I might start doing that a couple times a week to see how my body responds..always keeping my heart rate at 130-140. Today to finish the week off strong was ARM DAY and my friends Brian M. and Andy W. joined. Andy told me that he came close to throwing up at one point and Brian texted me after we were done and home and said "Mother Fucker...I'm beat" lol.  Needless to say it was a SICK workout and all of our arms were pumped to the max!

Today I was just thinking some random thoughts and I am very happy with my decision to wait and shoot at the start of the new year.  I really want to make a statement with my next pictures that I do since I havn't been in front of the camera since 2010.  These are going to be solely fitness shots and I plan on looking freaky!  Giving my body this much time to make improvements I feel is going to pay off HUGE and the bottom line is I'm in no rush right now to get new pictures taken.. I want the timing to be right and I want to look better than ever!  Like I've said in previous post I'm finally starting to look the way that I've always envisioned myself when I first got started in everything.

CHEAT MEAL! 8/11/2012

Tonight was my cheat meal night and like usual I toar up some food!  I had some Popeyes chicken..a  3 piece and a biscuit with a small serving of mashed potatos. Then about an hour after that I had  2 home made cheese steak sandwiches. For desert I had some pancakes with nutella and banana on top icon smile TMT PHASE 2 WEEK 2 DONE!   To get a little buzz going I had a couple Irish Car Bombs..one of my favorites!

Very proud and happy with one of my new online weight loss clients Norman! Here is his stats he's only been working with me for 4 weeks and I DON'T STARVE MY CLIENTS He's had trouble with eating all the food that's on the plan.  Just like all of my clients he gets a BIG cheat every week too. That being said It pisses me off when trainers starve their clients..hell anyone can lose weight if you starve them. THAT IS NOT HEALTHY! Back to Norman though..he's kicking ass! great job thus far but we have more work to do!

Week 1 of TMT-Phase 2 complete! & News Update

photo1311 Week 1 of TMT Phase 2 complete! & News Update

Screen shot from upcoming shoulder video for TMT-PHASE 2!

That was one hell of a week!  The workouts are crazy intense and so far so good as for being just as good as they look on paper.  There was only a couple minor tweaks that I made to perfect it.  Today my friend Brian joined up with me and we got after some arms!  I've already started filming my workouts and I've done 2 videos this week which I'll be putting out once the book is released in September.  This morning I didn't do any cardio except take the dogs for a 30 minutes walk a couple hours after my first meal.  I did my second session of HIIT cardio for the week after trashing arms and today I did 5 minutes on the spin bike by doing 1 min at a decent pace then a 30 second sprint (extremely painful leg pumps).  After the 5 grueling minutes were done I went on to the stair climber and did 2 minutes level 7.0 then 1 minute 8.0 and that wrapped up my workout for today.  Tonight I was completely ravenous and for my cheat meal Suzanne and I went to my favorite burger spot here in East Nashville called The Pharmacy.  I had the Farm Burger which has egg,ham and bacon on it and the cheeseburger which has 3 different types of cheese on it along with sweet potato fries and tots.  I washed it all down with a German beer that was 12% alcohol content (that one beer gave me a nice buzz).  After we finished that up I just wasn't feeling full or satisfied so I stopped by Burger King and tried the Texas BBQ Whopper and finished everything off with some ice cream when I got home icon smile Week 1 of TMT Phase 2 complete! & News Update

Favorite Burger spot in Nashville!

So after A LOT of thinking I've decided against going to South Africa or NYC in the near future to shoot.  I know I'm a very indecisive person sometimes lol but I just want to make sure I'm making the correct moves in order to further my progress towards my goals.  That being said the reasoning behind this is that I've really only been doing the correct nutrition, training, and supplementation for about 13 weeks now.  Yeah I built up my body for the first 6 years by training correctly and taking supplements but my nutrition was always horrible. Then I had the 1.5 years away from my passion where I completely threw everything away to try to be a fashion model.  Then after I got over that I was still in a confused state of mind of what exactly I wanted to do with my career and body.  Fast forward till recently it wasn't until I got very sick with pneumonia that it was a life changing experience for me.  If you've been following my site for a while then you will remember my ups and downs...my downs being where I wouldn't post ANYTHING for weeks on end...during those times I was very down on myself for the fact that I was always stressing out about my nutrition and could never accomplish the type of shape that I'm in now.  I was continuously spinning my wheels and the thought of quitting and giving everything up was constantly on my mind.  I was thinking of just getting a different job and going back to school for who knows what.  So the gist of the story is that I want to give my body more time to improve.  I've never seen it change weekly like it is and I've never done an "off season" style of nutrition and training correctly.  I feel this is the best time for me to do this since my head is on straight and my priorities are in the right place.  My plan now is to take the next 5 months and really focus on making solid improvements to my physique before I get back in front of the camera.  This will allow me to maintain where my body fat is now and make solid gains where I need to and not have to diet hard to get down to 3-3.5% body fat for a shoot (which is the percent I want to be for my next shoot) There is one photographer in particular that I am going to set a shoot up with that is famous for just FITNESS shots. I plan on doing this at the beginning of 2013!  Until then I will continue putting out plenty of content on here and my youtube channel!  Thanks again for the continuous support!  Everyone keep training hard and stay focused on your goals!

My Online Client Paul!!

paultransformation My Online Client Paul!!

3/23 - 7/19

I am VERY PROUD of Paul's hard work and dedication to the programs he's been following.  Right now we switched gears and are going to maintain his body fat where it's at now but fill his muscles back out!

"I am 45 years old and have lifted weights for decades never achieving the mass or definition I desired.  I found Tyler (ironically) through Twitter.  I only follow people that inspire me.  I checked out his website and was moved by his story and motivated by his journals.   Since I live in TX, his Online Program sounded like a great option.  I have previously worked with trainers but always felt like their workouts, supplementation and nutrition advice was very generic and did not necessarily fit my goals and/or body type.  I was excited about the prospect of a custom program.

I began with Tyler on 3/23/12.  At that time I weighed 210 lbs and my body fat was 24%.  I thought I was in good shape.

One of the things I appreciate most about Tyler is that he never lets me get comfortable with my diet, supplementation or training.  He pushes me hard to achieve my goals.  He has great wisdom and a depth of knowledge with regard to training and how the body responds to it.   He is encouraging, available and responsive to questions and concerns.  The first few months with Tyler were crazy.   I saw significant results quickly.  Each workout took me to my limit and each week looked very different.

And then came TMT Phase 1.  Until then, I only thought I had been working out.  I am 5 weeks in and my training is at a whole new level of intensity.  I leave the gym every day saying to myself, “that is the hardest work out I have ever had.”  And my favorite response from Tyler to that is, “Just wait.”  I am already pumped about the release of TMT Phase 2 and the pain, challenge and overall results that await.

Today (8/1/12), I weigh 180 lbs and am at 13% body fat.  I have more mass and definition than I have ever had in my life.  My current goal is to maintain this body fat and pack on muscle.  With Tyler’s coaching, I am confident I can achieve it." - Paul

TMT-PHASE 2 & HIIT CARDIO

tmtphase2 TMT PHASE 2 & HIIT CARDIO

8/2/2012 - FIRST WEEK OF TMT-PHASE 2!

After taking all day off yesterday except for my morning 30 minute walk I got some quality rest and was ready to crush it today!  Today was BACK training of TMT-PHASE 2 and it was SICK but I will have to make a couple tweaks on this one to make it just right.  Since the additions of food my body is responding great and I'm slowly filling out while maintaining my level of body fat.  Today at the gym I weighed myself (which I never do I usually weigh first thing in the morning empty stomach) and it said 224lb!  Granted that is after 3 meals and with my gym clothes on but I wasn't expecting that number lol.  Last night was the start of Clean Cheat Wednesday's!  Every Wednesday I'll be having a clean cheat meal and I'll post what that will consist of every week.  Last night I had Whole wheat waffles, Whole wheat pancakes, and 2 natural peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on whole wheat.  Another addition to my new training program is twice a week I'll be adding some HIIT cardio.  Nothing crazy just 10 minutes directly after my workout on days that I don't do AM cardio.  So that'll give me a total of about 2.5hrs of cardio a week.  The reason I'm adding this in is just to experiment and see how my body responds.  Plus it'll be a fun interesting addition.  I'll post all of my HIIT sessions on here as well twice a week.  Today I did:

  1. Jump Rope 1 Minute
  2. 30 seconds Russian Twist (lying on the floor balancing yourself on your ass twisting fast back in forth)
  3. Repeat back in for for 5 rounds
  4. Stair Climber 3 minutes level 8.0 (my legs to a crazy ass pump just from being on there 3 minutes)

"Change is essential for growth, and change is inevitable for all of us in many forms.  Institute change in your life or workouts to get rid of stagnation and move to more rarefied air.  Seek out change.  Become comfortable with change and welcome it, for whenever something dies there is also a birth.  Life demands that we constantly let go and adapt.  Hanging on can slow your journey and personal progress.  I want you to take the approach that change is a springboard to higher ground.  When you program your mind this way, you will immediately find the gifts that change brings.  Sometimes it just takes a minute to get your mind focused on the new abundance, and off of what you've been trained to knee-jerk and perceive as a loss.  It is a choice you make in your heart, for that is where you find your beliefs and your future.  Change your programming and change your destiny.  Meanwhile, enjoy the journey." - Kevin Levrone
